No.  You can also buy music as you go buy clicking the buy buttons and entering your credit card details.  However, you won’t be able to store your purchases online, and your download links will expire after 48 hours.  You also won’t be able to interact with bands and non-profits on Cause.fm without an account.

When you make a purchase, we share the money with the artists and the designated charity. Each donation amount is posted with each album, so you know exactly how much is going to support each cause.  You get an MP3 download that you can send to your iPod, iPhone, Zune, or any other device.  You’ll get a receipt via email with download instructions, in case you forget.

We charge a little bit more to make sure that we’re really making an impact. A slightly higher price for music means that artists are getting properly compensated for their hard work and talent, and that the causes they support are able to make a difference.

We pool all of the donations in a separate bank account and then disburse the funds to each charity according to our disbursement records every quarter by check. With each donation check, we include a list of donation honorees on whose behalf the donation is issued.

If you want to donate more, you can visit the charity's website to give more, or to get involved as a volunteer... or you can buy more music on Cause.fm. We think you should do all of the above.

Because you are purchasing music, we don't believe that the transaction is tax-deductible at this time.

We hire a third-party accounting firm to audit our donation records for maximum transparency so you can be assure that the donations got there.

We do not reactivate download links for any reason, so make sure you back up your purchases.  Even better, to make sure you always have your music available, simply create a Cause.fm account here, and purchase music on your account. Artists receive 75% of the proceeds from a sale of their music. The artist decides how much from that amount gets donated to charity (minimum of 5%). We set our retail prices slightly higher than other places, so artists can continue to make what they're used to making elsewhere -- except now, their music has special powers.

That depends on how you choose to be paid. If you are donating all of your proceeds, then we don’t really need any information. However, if you do want to make a little money from your music, we need a W9 (or W8-BEN if you’re not in the US), and basic information like your name and address to send you checks, or a PayPal account email address to send you PayPal payments.

Cause.fm is completely free. We don’t charge you hosting fees or per album fees like those other guys.

We pay bands via Check or PayPal.  Bands can choose their payment method and their minimum threshhold in their payment preferences.

No. Cause.fm is a music download service. However, we guarantee that a minimum of 5% (of the artist's proceeds) from every download we sell benefits a charity like yours, which is what makes us super cool. Cause.fm does not act as a fundraising agent of any organization.

We accept any organization with 501c3 status, with a headquarters or chapter in the United States.  Your organization must have an EIN in order to receive donations.  While we generally stay neutral on the issues, and accept all kinds of organizations, we reserve the right to remove or deny accounts by organizations engaged in illegal, slanderous , libelous, or other activities that are in bad taste out of respect for our artists and the other organizations listed on our service.

We will verify your organization’s status and make sure you’re actually a representative from the organization, and we may contact you if necessary. Once we’ve verified your organization, you can begin receiving donations and interacting with fans on the site.

You can claim your profile by signing up for a cause account (our sign up magic will automatically figure out that you're claiming an unmanaged profile), and we’ll call you at your organization’s phone number to transfer your account over to your control.

We provide your organization with a list of honorees for each donation. You can see the transaction records by claiming your organization's profile.

Nope. Cause.fm is completely free for non-profits. No hosting fees, no donation transaction fees. We’re here to help you raise money, not spend it.

You can track your supporting artists' activity by logging in to your account.

Donations are issued on a quarterly basis by Cause.fm. We'll send a check to the donation address provided by you or a third-party database such as GuideStar.
